I’m making a visual novel for adults! When I started this last November, my friends gave me so much crap about it. I know it sounds rather random, but I want to make JRPG style video games and such with Teacup Ninja, and that isn’t easy. I figured if I’m going to make games, then a visual novel was a good place to start.
I also want to put more original work out, and since my art is very character based, I need to back up my work with a story most of the time. Unfortunately, I noticed that doing that is easier said than done, and I haven’t completed much.
Anyway, the story is about maids in space. I got the idea off of a tabletop game that generated very weird scenarios. My friends and I started to play it, but we didn’t get very far. It was only when I thought that our story was so nuts that one might find it in a visual novel, that I realized it might be fun to write it. I know maids in space doesn’t sound weird, but it gets weird, trust me.
A lot of the story is new material. After all, there were five characters originally, and besides fleshing them out and a chosen setting, we never did anything else. Basically, I took a stupid idea and ran with it for about 40,000 words.
